'30 Days Ramadan' Interactive Photo Project Captures Personal Muslim Experiences (PHOTOS)

LOOK: Interactive Photo Project Makes Ramadan Personal

For Ramadan 2013, Bassam Tariq of the 30 Mosques/30 Days project joined up with filmmaker Musa Syeed to create 30 Days / Ramadan, an interactive photo project that grew out of the Ramadan road trip which started in 2010, featuring 30 mosques in 30 states.

Participants around the globe tagged tweets, Instagram photos, and Tumblr posts with the hashtag #30days to join the virtual celebration of the Muslim holy month. They posted photos every day, and the finished project features 1,551 curated Ramadan moments, which feel much more personal than more professional coverage of the Muslim holy month.

Musa Syeed told The Huffington Post, "I think there are a lot of stereotypes and tropes in media coverage of Muslims around the world, which results from a lack of familiarity with Islam. As people within the community, we noticed this, and thought the best way to counter it was to let people tell their own stories."
