A group of New Jersey employees are apparently the holders of one of the three winning Powerball lottery tickets, USA Today reported.
Sixteen workers at the Ocean County Vehicle Maintenance Department in Toms River, N.J., joined a pool for a chance to win the $448 million jackpot.
The colleagues purchased their ticket -- bearing the numbers 5, 25, 30, 58, 59 and Powerball 32 -- at the Acme supermarket in Little Egg Harbor. The store will receive a $30,000 commission for selling the ticket, The Asbury Park Press reported.
The employees, who showed up for work Thursday, according to their boss, live in a coastal New Jersey community hit hard by Superstorm Sandy, the Associated Press reported.
"I couldn't be more happy for them," Jim Pine, director of the department where the employees work, told the Press of Atlantic City. "They're a group of wonderful, hardworking people, and showing up for work today ought to tell you something."
The workers will share their prize with Paul White of Ham Lake, Minn., and another winning ticket holder from New Jersey. That person has not yet come forward to claim his/her winnings.
Each of the three Powerball tickets is worth $86 million before taxes and $58.3 million after taxes. Winners who opt to take the jackpot prize over the next 30 years will receive $149.4 million.
Thirty-eight other winning tickets worth $1 million or more were also sold. In order to win a million or more, players had to match all five numbers drawn except the Powerball number.
