Tameka Raymond, Usher's Ex-Wife, Files For Custody After Son's Pool Accident

Usher's Ex Files For Custody Of Kids

Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Raymond, filed for child custody after their 5-year-old son was taken to the hospital because of a pool accident Tuesday.

Raymond filed for emergency custody of their two children in Georgia's Fulton County Superior Court late in the day on Aug. 6, ABC News confirmed. An emergency custody order is given if the court determines removal is in the best interest of the child.

Their son, Usher Raymond V, was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after nearly drowning in an Atlanta pool, the Associated Press reported. His arm got stuck in the drain at the bottom of the pool and it took multiple attempts to free him.

Raymond claims in her filing that Usher does not "properly supervise" their son, ABC reported, and that he delegates caregiver responsibilities to others frequently because he isn't home. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that according to a police report, the 5-year-old's great-aunt and a housekeeper tried to free him from the pool drain at the time of the incident; the great-aunt called 911.

"Now that it's sunk in, she is livid," a source told People magazine. "Usher has custody and won't let Tameka have the kids, even when he's out of town. She feels like the kids are being raised by his family or by nannies, when they should be with their mother."

"The Voice" coach was granted custody of both their children, Usher Raymond V and Naviyd Ely, in 2012 following a bitter court battle. The couple married in 2007 and divorced in 2009. During the court proceedings, she accused her ex of being an absentee father, CNN notes.
