Frank Ocean Cancels Shows After Tear In Vocal Cords

Star Cancels Shows After Scary Injury

Frank Ocean was performing in Australia during the opening night of his sold-out tour on the island, but something just wasn't right. The singer struggled throughout the gig and headed to the doctor's office afterward, where he received some scary news: Ocean had suffered a tear to his vocal cords and would have to cancel the rest of his Australian tour to recover.

Billboard posted the following statement from a promoter: "After last night's concert... it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced during the show. It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal cords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice."

The sold-out tour was previously expanded once the demand exceeded the available tickets. Ocean, still touring on the strength of last year's "channel ORANGE," has debuted a few new tracks along the way.

Ocean, a somewhat quiet and reserved performer who shuns publicity stunts, recently posted lyrics to an original remix verse for "Versace," perhaps rap's most popular club hit of the moment (Drake further popularized the track with a remix of his own). In typically quirky fashion, Ocean claims there will be "no audio" for the remix -- just the written words, delivered in a screenshot of a TextEdit file, as always. The lyrics came with a perceived jab at Chris Brown, who has long agitated Ocean: "You could stay seated I'm taking that Grammy, your music is sloppy." Brown visibly remained seated as the crowd around him rose to give Ocean a standing ovation when the latter beat Brown at last year's Grammys.
