'Sharknado' Cost: Syfy's Hit Movie Cost Two Million

The Price Of 'Sharknado'

It's safe to say that Syfy's made-for-TV movie "Sharknado" was a huge hit.

Not only did the film (starring Tara Reid and Ian Ziering) blow up on Twitter, but viewers are already begging for a sequel. So how much did it cost to make a movie about a tornado that dumped sharks all over LA?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, producer David Latt opened up how much money it took to make "Sharknado."

"Sharknado is around the $2 million mark," Latt said. "We don't break the bank for any one person or prop; we work backward and get cast from there. For this ensemble cast, including John Heard, it made sense for either the material or their time."

As for director Anthony C. Ferrante, he told Buzzfeed that he's still in shock over the success of "Sharknado" -- especially because there was a time when no one thought they had the budget for it.

"I wanted to do the movie. No one else wanted to make this movie because they didn’t think it could be shot or done. It was, like, a $100 million script, and we had no money to make this thing."
