Long-term care is support provided to older people and adults with disabilities who cannot perform these activities on their own due to a physical, cognitive or chronic health condition that is expected to continue for an extended period of time. These services, which can be extremely expensive, include human assistance, supervision, assistive technologies and care coordination for people who live in their own home, a residential setting or an institutional setting such as a nursing facility. Americans currently do not have accessible and affordable options to plan for this kind of care that 70 percent of adults over 65 will face for about three years on average.
