University of Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb and former CU lineman Alexander Lewis both waived their right to a preliminary hearing in their assault cases Monday, and each will now move forward for separate arraignments in their respective cases.
Lewis, 21, faces one count of second-degree assault and two counts of harassment, while Webb, 22, faces one count of second-degree assault after police say the two assaulted a man on University Hill in May.
The original June 3 preliminary hearing -- at which a judge reviews the case to rule whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed with felony charges -- was delayed so attorneys could go over additional evidence.
Boulder Judge Noel Blum granted both of the waivers and bound the cases over for arraignment in Boulder County District Court. Lewis is set for an arraignment hearing on July 26; Webb is due for his hearing on Aug. 2.
Boulder police arrested Lewis and Webb in the early morning hours of May 11 after witnesses said the men were involved in a fight on the Hill that left a cadet from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs unconscious.
According to a police report, witnesses said Lewis -- an offensive linemen who transferred to the University of Nebraska in May -- pushed 22-year-old Lee Bussey's head into a brick wall, before both Lewis and Webb pushed Bussey to the ground and began punching him.
Both Lewis and Webb are free on $10,000 bond. ___
