Ben's Chili Bowl Coming To H Street, Owners Issued Permits To Begin Renovation Of New Location

Half Smokes On H Street!

Have you been spending your Friday nights on H Street wishing you could indulge in a tasty half smoke from D.C.'s famed Ben's Chili Bowl?

Soon your hopes, desires and stomach will be (ful)filled.

The owners of Ben's Chili Bowl were issued permits Friday to renovate a two-story building at 10th and H streets NE -- this will be the next location for the U Street mainstay.

The project will add about 800 square feet to the 4,200-square-foot building.

The proposed use is a full-service restaurant, an H Street Ben's Chili Bowl outpost, from the first floor to the roof, with 191 seats and 272 total occupancy.

While the Washington Business Journal could not reach Nizam or Kamal Ali, the owners of Ben's Chili Bowl, for a comment about an opening date for the popular restaurant -- Bill Cosby, President Barack Obama and former French President Nicolas Sarkozy have both eaten there -- Nizam Ali told Prince of Petworth in February that the owners' "goal is to open before the end of the year."
