Andrew Sullivan: Catholic Dignity Is Evident In DOMA Opinion By Justice Kennedy (VIDEO)

WATCH: Andrew Sullivan: DOMA Ruling Represents Catholic Beliefs

Andrew Sullivan recently showed his religious colors when commenting on the historic ruling by the Supreme Court that struck down both the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Prop 8.

In an appearance on CNN's Anderson Cooper360, Sullivan commented that the way gay couples were treated before the end of DOMA was "offensive."

"It was an assault on dignity that Justice Kennedy talked about," fellow guest Evan Wolfson, President of Freedom to Marry, added.

Then Sullivan, who has been open about his Catholic beliefs in the past, let loose:

"That, I have to say, was a real Catholic thing. The Catholic hierarchy has been awful. But the Catholic people and families and friends and people who care, as Jesus did, about the marginalized, and treating them with dignity, they are happy today and Kennedy used that Catholic language to support that moving argument."
