Anderson Cooper Hosts CNN's George Zimmerman Special At 10 P.M.

CNN's Latest Experiment

CNN is trying something different at 10 p.m.: a nightly special about George Zimmerman's trial, hosted by Anderson Cooper.

"Self-Defense Or Murder? The George Zimmerman Trial" examines each day of Zimmerman's trial, which started Monday. It aired at 10 p.m. on Monday night, and will continue throughout the week. Cooper is hosting the one-hour special, and is joined by Jeffrey Toobin, Mark Geragos and Marsha Clark. Repeats of "AC 360," which normally air at 10 p.m., have been bumped to 11 p.m.

It is CNN's latest experiment with its 10 p.m. timeslot since Jeff Zucker took over in January. The network played around with a panel format on the 10 p.m. airing of "AC 360," as well as the short-lived "The Point" with Donny Deutsch.

CNN is not the only cable news network banking on viewers to tune into coverage of Zimmerman's trial. Earlier this month, MSNBC announced plans to cover the trial in-depth, which the network rarely does. The network began its coverage on Monday. It apologized after airing the prosecutor saying the f-word twice on the first day of the trial, and announced that it was instituting a seven-second delay.

CORRECTION: CNN did not re-air Jake Tapper's "The Lead" at 10 p.m. for a week in April, as previously stated in this article. The network had announced plans to do so, but did not go forward due to breaking news coverage about the Boston marathon bombings.
