Black Voices Breakthrough Theater, part of our Screening Room experience, is a ten part series where our panel of curators present new, short films and web series created by emerging talent --both on screen and behind the camera.
This week’s film, “Father’s Day,” tells the story of Cori Lewis, a young woman whose father walks out on her and her mother as a child. Years later, as a Psychology major in college, Lewis is faced with the challenge to discuss her relationship with her father as a final exam topic. With this unfathomable task on her shoulders, she is then forced to confront her mother about the elephant in the room, her absent father.
ASHLEY SHANTE has a recurring role in the web series, “12 Steps to Recovery,” and has also has had appearances on “As the World Turns,” and “The Letterman Show.” Shante wrote, directed, and produced the overnight internet success PSA, “64”, and a promo for, “Father’s Day”. The promo stars, Miss Black USA, Osas Ighodaro, Justiin A. Davis (Boardwalk Empire), Lawrence Saint Victor (Guiding Light), and many more. Ashley dedicates all her talents to her fierce passion of improving and inspiring the lives of everyday people.
SQUEAKY MOORE is one woman, with many faces, one actress, with many talents. Native of Chicago, she received her MFA from Roosevelt University Conservatory in Chicago. Moore serves as a writer, acting coach, producer and director of many projects including the improv-based comedy show "Guud Timez." Some of her recent acting credits include, "Gang Girl,"a role in the web series, "12 Steps to Recovery", the stage play, "Who is a Virtuous Woman," directed by Wendy Mckenzie, and for her dual role in the off-Broadway play, "Haymarket." She continues to add to her impressive resume by appearing in feature films and various television shows.
