Chicago Heat Wave: Temperatures Expected To Surge, Storms Possible On First Day Of Summer

First Day Of Summer Brings Year's First Heat Wave, Possible Storms

It might finally be time to install those window air-conditioning units, Chicago.

The first day of summer Friday is expected to be the first in a series of hot days marking the city's first heat wave of what's been a relatively mild year so far.

According to the Chicago Tribune, temperatures in the area are expected to soar into the upper 80s Friday before hitting 90 or higher Saturday through mid-next week, the hottest temperatures of the year to date.

Along with the heat, humidity and stormy conditions are expected. A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect beginning Friday morning in far west suburban counties stretching from McHenry to Grundy counties, NBC Chicago reports. Thunderstorms and rain could impact much of the Chicago area.

The chance of stormy weather will stretch through the weekend into Monday.

Luckily for those in need of a cooldown, the year's balmiest weather so far also coincides with the Chicago Park District opening their 50 outdoor pools citywide on Friday.

Stay cool, Chicago!
