This week on "Intervention," viewers met 33-year-old Dana. This mother of four was addicted to prescription pills and crack cocaine, spending as much as $2,000 a week on her habit. She was taking up to 200 pills a day. The story of what pushed her into drugs was one of the most tragic in the history of the show.
About two years ago, Dana's apartment caught fire while she and her four children were inside. Three of her children died in the fire, and in fact Dana died as well. She was resuscitated, but couldn't grapple the profound loss she'd suffered. So she turned to drugs.
“After the fire, I just didn’t care, because I woke up to all my dreams getting shattered," Dana said. "I should’ve been dead. I should’ve died with my kids.”
She blamed herself for surviving. So bad was her addiction, that she lost custody of her surviving child, a 4-year-old son. But at the intervention, Dana took the offer of help from her family and entered rehab. She came out 90 days later sober and much healthier. She's now been clean for six months and has regular contact with her son as she works to get her life back on track.
