Omaha Shootings: Deadly Violence Erupts In City On Saturday, Sunday Morning

City Rocked By Wave Of Deadly Gun Violence

Five people are dead and two others are critically wounded after a spate of weekend gun violence in Omaha, Neb.

Most of the carnage took place within an hour on Saturday afternoon, according to CNN.

The first shooting happened at 2:03 p.m. local time on Saturday. The victim is in critical condition.

Three more shootings would follow shortly thereafter, leaving three dead and another person in critical condition.

The World Herald reports that one of the deceased was shot by a police officer. Authorities are investigating if the man, whose name has not been reported, was tied to the other Saturday shootings. He is a suspect in at least one of them.

The paper also reports that two more people were killed in a shooting around 1:30 a.m. Sunday during a gathering of people at a home in North Omaha.

"One man was found dead outside a house; another was taken in critical condition to hospital [sic] and died on the way or just after arriving," authorities told the Herald.

Police do not believe that the shooting on Sunday was related to Saturday's slayings.

A reporter for WOWT spoke with stunned Omaha residents about the wave of violence.

"It's kind of surreal, but like everybody says, it's never happened in my neighborhood before, but it just goes to show you it can happen anywhere,” Brad Ruzac said.

"It's alarming," Jason Weyerman said. "We don't see any violence around here."
