NFL And Athlete Ally Debut Gay Pride T-Shirt Line Featuring Football Stars

Prideful Sports Fan? Celebrate Gay Pride By Wearing Your Favorite Athlete's Shirt!

Athlete Alley, a nonprofit organization fighting for equality in organized sports, have teamed up with the NFL Players Association to produce a line of Pride shirts entitled, The One Team Pride Shirts, to show their support for the LGBT community.

Nine players, including one of the more vocal straight allies Oakland Raiders punter Chris Kluwe, have lent their names and jersey numbers to the line of shirts. Kluwe released a statement about the newest pride apparel:

“I am extremely proud to be a part of this collaboration between Athlete Ally and the NFLPA's One Team Shop to raise awareness both of Pride month and the issue of tolerance and respect within the NFL itself. As players, we are role models to a wide variety of people, and this is a great way to send a message of empathy to those who love and watch the game.”

The debut of the shirts come at a perfect time, not only for Pride Month, and the recent openly gay athletes, but also in conjunction with the Nike Sports Summit currently happening in Portland, Oregon. The convention is where athletes, coaches, and members of the media from the sports world are gathering to discuss how to treat gays and transgender people with equality in professional sports leagues.
