Keith Olbermann To Host TBS' Postseason Baseball Coverage

Keith Olbermann will return to cable television as a host for TBS' in-studio coverage of the Major League Baseball postseason, the Hollywood Reporter said on Wednesday.

Olbermann will lead TBS' studio show from Atlanta, along with analyst Dennis Eckersley, according to THR's Marisa Guthrie. His hosting duties will start in October. Guthrie added, "Sources say the deal has an option for the 2014 postseason as well." Turner Sports also tweeted the announcement on Wednesday.

This is Olbermann’s first official gig since he was fired from Current TV in March 2012. He has made occasional media appearances — including participating in a Sunday morning political roundtable, talking to David Letterman and providing commentary in the baseball card documentary “Holy Grail” — since then, and has reportedly been plotting his return to television.

Olbermann is returning to a familiar role. He was previously a postseason baseball studio host at both NBC and Fox. Wednesday’s announcement confirms speculation that the former ESPN sportscaster and avid baseball fan would return to sports coverage. The New York Times reported in March that he had been eyeing a return to ESPN, where he worked from 1992 to 1997, and met with network president John Skipper.

Olbermann also recently wrapped up a nasty legal battle with Current, which reportedly ended with both sides settling outside of court. A source told Deadline that Olbermann will receive a "a significant payout" from the network.
