Dan Savage Explains Why Sex Education Must Include LGBTs

Author and sex advice columnist Dan Savage, who recently asserted that gays are better at sex, is now offering his opinion on why sex education needs to be lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) inclusive.

In the latest installment of his series "American Savage" he says:

"When gay people, queer people, are left out of sex ed, that is a problem, particularly when you look at the HIV infection rates... Then we have sex ed that sends young gay and bi men out into the world knowing nothing because the only things covered in their sex ed classes were reproductive biology and vaginal intercourse... That's not going to help out lesbian, gay or trans. It will help out bi people half the time."

He then went on to add how problematic it is that society has ignored gay children.

"We have a problem in our education system where we are not allowed to acknowledge the existence of gay children. And they exist," he said. "The culture has pretended for 40 years that gay adults leap out of the backs of gay bars at age 18, fully formed."
