Eric Garcetti Transition Team Won't Be Large

Oh, Hi There!

As he prepares to take on his new responsibilities, Mayor-elect Eric Garcetti announced Friday he is seeking public input on priorities as he began the formal work of transition from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Garcetti announced a website, transition.lacity.org, where information on the transition plans will be available as well as a platform to offer suggestions and share ideas for the new administration.

Before taking office on July 1, Garcetti said he plans to travel around the city to hear directly from Angelenos.

"We're running a focused transition to ensure we hit the ground running on day one with an agenda to create jobs and solve problems for L.A. residents," Garcetti said.

"I will get City Hall back to basics so that all of our neighborhoods are places where families thrive and businesses succeed."

Garcetti also announced he was turning to a former aide, Richard Llewellyn, to head his transition operation.

Llewellyn once served as Garcetti's chief of staff and also served as a special counsel to Garcetti's father, former District Attorney Gil Garcetti.

Llewellyn served as a member of Garcetti's mayoral campaign and most recently has been chief of staff to Councilman Paul Koretz.

A graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law School, Llewellyn practiced with the firm headed by former Mayor Richard Riordan before going to work in government.

"Rich understands my priorities and has the experience and expertise to help me assemble an administration that is ready for action," Garcetti said.

Because of his role as a council member and as council president, Garcetti does not feel the need for a large transition team, his aides said. Also, he plans to bring in a proposal to allow him to raise private donations to cover the transition costs.
