WASHINGTON -- One of D.C.'s most popular outdoor movie festivals, Screen on the Green, has revealed its summer 2013 schedule:

  • July 22 – "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial"
  • July 29 – "Norma Rae"
  • August 5 – "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory"
  • August 12 – "Tootsie"

The free outdoor movie festival takes place on the National Mall between 7th and 12th Streets, running four consecutive Monday evenings beginning July 22 with family favorite "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial."

“This year’s lineup is one of the best we’ve ever seen –- it is a true celebration of modern American cinema,” Jesse B. Rauch, president and founder of Friends of Screen on the Green, said in a statement.

Friends of Screen on the Green partners with HBO and Comcast for the 15th annual film festival, which attracts around 15,000 people to each showing.

Screen on the Green has been a Washington fixture since 1999 and was nearly canceled in 2009 before a community campaign saved the festival.
