Missing Dog Found Alive After Car Accident Injures Its Owners, Kills Another Dog (VIDEO)

WATCH: Dog Found Alive After Deadly Car Crash

A tragic Memorial Day accident in Illinois left a couple in the hospital with one of their dogs dead and another missing. Yesterday, in a stroke of good fortune, volunteers found the surviving black lab named Abby about a mile from the crash site.

Steve and Jodie Kemp's car veered off-road into a ditch near Annawan, Ill. on Monday, according to WQAD's report. Abby reportedly fled after the accident and went missing.

Both the Kemps were taken to a hospital in Davenport and were unable to search for their labrador. "That’s Steve’s baby. He’s in serious condition, and that’s the only thing he asked, is please bring Abby home," sister-in-law Jen Anderson told WQAD.

The Kemps' family and volunteers from the town searched for Abby and found her in a muddy creek bed on Tuesday morning. Jodie Kemp's voice over the phone lured her from her hiding spot, and the team was able to bring Abby to safety.

"The whole town of Annawan has been great," Anderson told WQAD, "Everyone’s looked for her since yesterday afternoon. Some people traveled two hours.. Hopefully Steve can start healing now.”

Abby is one of many dogs who have found their way home after being separated from their families by car accidents. In March, a Georgia man's dog went missing after a crash in Michigan and was found 3 months later with some help from Facebook.

Two years ago, a Maltese that disappeared after a fatal crash in New Mexico was returned to its family in Michigan a year later.
