Flintstones & WWE Team Up For Upcoming Animated Movie

Beloved Cartoon Gets Surprise Reboot

The Flintstones are returning to film in a new deal between Warner Bros and WWE Studios, Deadline.com reports.

The upcoming animated feature is set for a 2015 release. According to Deadline, the film will unite Flintstones favorites such as Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble with big WWE names including John Cena.

The Flintstones, which started as an animated television show in the 1960s, was adapted to a live-action film starring John Goodman and Elizabeth Perkins in 1994, and a second-live action film, "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas," starring Mark Addy and Kristen Johnston in 2000.

“WWE is family-friendly entertainment, so partnering with Warner Bros on a Flintstones/WWE project was a natural extension of our Scooby Doo deal,” President of WWE Studios Michael Luisi said, Deadline reports. “This new, animated feature allows us to showcase our brand with young fans and loyal Flintstones enthusiasts alike.”

This isn't the first time plans have been mounted for a reboot of "The Flintstones." Seth MacFarlane, of "Family Guy" fame, attempted his own version of "The Flintstones" for Fox television, but the project was jettisoned last year.
