Give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen
It's not all about the hair when it comes to rock 'n' roll and music festivals, but the 'do-or-die presentation has been an essential part of the act even before the show with the catchy lyrics at the top hit Broadway in 1968.
Now here's your chance to rate the best among these 10 individual artists from "hair bands" that appeared at the 2013 Hangout Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. It's certainly not inclusive, because it was impossible to see (and photograph) every act that went the extra mile of style on one of five stages over three days this weekend.
These selections include longtime personal favorites (such as the wonderfully weird Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs), along with relatively newer performers I finally was able to catch for the first time like Dirty Projectors and the Tontons.
If you disagree and have another Hangout act that deserves to be seen and heard (the Weeks were one shaggy bunch that should have made the cut), feel free to submit your comments below.
Just don't worry about splitting hairs.
