Still No Paid Leave For New Parents On Mother's Day (INFOGRAPHIC)

If The U.S. Wanted To Say 'Happy Mother's Day,' It Would Do This

Some new mothers may not have much time to celebrate Mother's Day this weekend, as the U.S. is still the only industrialized country not to mandate paid leave for parents of newborns.

The National Partnership for Women & Families created the timeline below to show how out-of-step the U.S. is when it comes to giving moms a few weeks off to take care of their new babies. Most countries in the OECD have been providing this benefit for decades.

Here's a Huffington Post graphic that shows just how many paid weeks some new mothers and fathers around the world get to take off. Research has shown that men who take paternity leave are more involved in raising children since they share that crucial, early part of the childcare learning curve.

Some American companies offer generous maternity leave policies to retain top talent. Yahoo! recently expanded its paid maternity leave policy from eight weeks to 16 and gave fathers eight paid weeks. The decision came just months after CEO Marissa Mayer banned employees from working at home.
