Rihanna Arrives Hours Late For Boston Show, Gets Booed

Rihanna Booed By Boston Fans

Rihanna left fans waiting hours for a concert in Boston on Monday night, a concert she already had to postpone due to illness.

Rihanna arrived far behind schedule for her May 6 show at TD Garden. Boston.com reports she took the stage at 10:30 p.m., but the doors had opened at 7:30 p.m., and she was supposed to have started at 9 p.m.

Rihanna's late arrival wasn't the only glitch. Opening act A$AP Rocky failed to show up because he was sick. Several fights allegedly broke out on the floor while the crowd waited, according to Fox affiliate WFXT.

When she finally appeared, Rihanna was met with boos from Boston fans.

"The crowd responded the best they could: with a round of boos," Boston.com reported. "Even when the house lights went down, the cheers and jeers rose up in unison. That’s not how you want to begin your rescheduled concert."

At least one British tabloid alleges Rihanna was late to the Boston show because she was watching the Chicago Bulls play the Miami Heat instead. The 25-year-old has made no mention of the incident, but she posted a photo to Instagram, captioning it thus: "I will never forget this night!!! I truly have deeper love for you now!!! Thank you for making it extra special!!!"

Rihanna's "Diamonds" tour has hit quite a few speed bumps since it kicked off in March, Billboard notes. The singer canceled a March 10 Boston show due to a bout of laryngitis. That same month she was four hours late for a charity-related event at a Chicago high school. In April, she postponed stops in Texas until November due to illness again.

Although her performance record has been spotty, her selling power is undeniable. Last month, the "Stay" singer snagged the record for the most No. 1 pop songs, beating out every artist over the past two decades, during which Billboard's Pop Songs chart has been tracking radio airplay.
