Bill O'Reilly's 'Killing Jesus' Has A Title Twin

Title Surprise For New Bill O'Reilly Book

Bill O'Reilly announced in February that his next book, co-written with Martin Dugard, will be titled Killing Jesus: A History, coming out in the fall. This must have come as something of a surprise to Stephen Mansfield, whose book Killing Jesus: The Unknown Conspiracy Behind the World's Most Famous Execution is published by independent Christian publisher Worthy Publishing tomorrow.

Both books follow the events leading up to the crucifixion, with O'Reilly and Dugard's already being slated for a TV adaptation on the National Geographic Channel, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"Stephen's book was conceived long before there was any news about an O'Reilly book," Worthy Publishing President Byron Willliamson told the AARP blog. "We were uploading digital files to the printer for Killing Jesus when we first heard [about the title duplication]."

Mansfield's book also grabbed the domain name killingjesus.com in January, leaving O'Reilly and Dugard with killingjesusthebook.com, which they registered the following month.

It's not the first title twin for the bestselling authors. O'Reilly and Dugard's book Killing Kennedy, the follow up to the pair's Killing Lincoln, also shared its title with an existing book published in 1995.

Still, at least there will be a gap of several months between the two Killing Jesus's. As the AARP points out, earlier this year two novels with the same title were published within eight weeks of each other, increasing the likelihood of confusion among readers and booksellers.
