Red Sox Manager John Farrell, Indians' Terry Francona Reflect On Boston Tragedy (VIDEOS)

WATCH: Red Sox Manager Hopes Team Can Provide 'A Little Diversion'

Before his team took the field in Cleveland on Tuesday night, Red Sox manager John Farrell reflected on the tragic bombings at the Boston Marathon.

"There have been occurrences in society where sports maybe provides a little bit of a vehicle for that normalcy to get back in order," said Farrell. "Tonight when that first pitch is thrown, I think our guys will be able to focus solely on the task at hand and that is to play this game. But I would hope that those in Boston that watch this team and watch our players will gain some sense of maybe a little diversion of what has taken place and get back to that normalcy."

Cleveland manager Terry Francona, who managed the Red Sox from 2004 to 2011, also talked about the tragedy and recalled his own experience of Patriots' Day in Boston.

"Just from being there the time I was, that day is so special to people in Boston. They're so proud of that day," said Francona. "You have the marathon, the game, it's a big deal. It's a very, kind of a personal day for the city of Boston, in New England. I don't know how you quantify what happened. It's unfair. I hope this game does help some people."

When it came time to play baseball, the Red Sox pounced on Indians pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez early and scored seven runs in the second inning. They went on to win 7-2.
