E! host and new mom Giuliana Rancic recently sparked a backlash when she said her husband Bill comes before her son, Edward Duke, who was born via surrogate in August.
On Tuesday, Guiliana and Bill addressed the backlash when they joined HuffPost Live host Abby Huntsman to discuss their new show "Ready For Love." Guiliana said she was "shocked" by the reaction that followed her "marriage before kids" statement. "We put our marriage first because we want to be the best role models for Duke possible, because our relationship is the first relationship he's exposed to... so if were kissing and dancing and hugging and loving each other, it can only benefit him."
And then Bill jumped in. "You gotta put effort in. You gotta really put the time in to make sure you have that solid foundation in order to raise a healthy family," he said.
Guiliana is not the first mother to say she prioritizes her husband over her son. Ayelet Waldman got her share of criticism after writing a 2005 Op-Ed on the matter. "If a good mother is one who loves her child more than anyone else in the world, I am not a good mother. I am in fact a bad mother. I love my husband more than I love my children," she announced and, of course, followed up that piece with with her book -- Bad Mother.
