Tornado Destroys Dozens Of Homes, Church

At least one tornado touched down in north central Arkansas on Wednesday evening, damaging more than two dozen homes and destroying a church, CNN reported.

According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the most significant damage occurred in Van Buren County, where at least 33 homes and a business were hit. The twister demolished the Botkinburg Foursquare Church and overturned an 18-wheeler truck as well, THV11 reported.

At least three people were also injured.

At the peak of the storm's activity, around 6,000 customers lost power.

The National Weather Service said the tornado weakened fairly quickly, but then another formed soon after that. Parts of Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana remain under a tornado watch tonight, AccuWeather.com reports. Threats of thunderstorms, large hail, flash floods and strong winds were also predicted.

This year has been a slow one for tornadoes in Arkansas. So far, only six twisters have been reported, about half the normal number.
