In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Verde Magazine -- a student-run publication at Palto Alto High School -- dedicated their entire April issue to rape awareness. ABC News reports that Verde's cover story included interviews with two female students who talked about their own experiences with sexual assault and other teens' reactions.
The magazine also posted a poll online and received some shocking results: 57 percent of students at their high school agreed that certain women are more likely to be raped because of "promiscuous behavior" and 26 percent thought a woman is responsible for the assault if she gets drunk first.
"We are a very liberal community, but some of these statements were certainly, if not ignorant, then not very well thought out," Evelyn Wang, the teenage editor-in-chief of Verde Magazine, told ABC News.

An 18-year-old from Michigan, Lauren Kyle, is also making headlines this month for her efforts to raise awareness about rape at her high school. WWMT News reports that after being assaulted last summer by a friend she knew well, Kyle launched a rape prevention campaign called "No Means No" where she's selling ribbons to donate money to charity.
"I just want to be a role model and have more people learn about it," she said. "Don't hide it, that's the worst thing you can do is hide it and not let anybody know what happened."
