This real estate agent wanted more than just a commission.
On Feb. 9, Stephen Brumme, a 60-year-old real estate agent from Silver Spring, Md., was -- as you can see in the above surveillance video -- caught engaging in activities other than just showing a house in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington while the two people who own the house were out of town.
Here's the report from Arlington Now, which spoke with one of the homeowners, identified only as "William":
Brumme entered the house legally and signed in as a real estate agent, in advance of a client showing up to tour the home, but is seen on a surveillance camera going through what William said is his wife’s clothing, in a bedroom closet and a dresser. According to William, Brumme pocketed three of his wife’s shirts before the client showed up and Brumme is seen leaving the bedroom to answer the door.
William said he and his wife were “creeped out” by the video when they watched it.
"I like to think that people are good, but often times they’re not," William told Arlington Now.
The Washington Examiner identifies the stolen items as "women's underwear."
According to William, the video camera was set up in plain sight and transmits and records video using a service called Dropcam. William told Arlington Now he'd installed this and other video cameras after finding a razor blade in his garbage disposal -- apparently left behind by another real estate agent.
Brumme has been charged with burglary and possession of burglarious tools and his real estate license has been suspended.
Police are now looking for other homeowners to come forward.
“His behavior leads us to believe there are additional victims,” Arlington County Police Department spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Arlington Now. “He went straight to the closet and the drawers. He knew exactly what he was looking for.”
