The puck stops here for a high school hockey team that posted a video of players doing a raunchy version of the 'Harlem Shake,' CBS New York reports.
Officials suspended the Nyack-Tappan Zee squad in Rockland County, N.Y., from the playoffs for its locker-room hijinks, according to the station. As a snippet of the video (above) shows, the performance looks like an extreme bump-and-grind burlesque. One participant wore just a sock -- not on his foot.
Team member Brian Bermingham told CBS he thought a postseason ban was too extreme. Another player's father, Dr. Craig Aronson, conceded the team's presentation was "shocking" but protected by the Constitution.
Aronson's son, Corey, tweeted that he was "pretty furious" about the decision over what he called merely a "borderline inappropriate video."
According to the local area LoHud Hockey Blog, the squad is combined from Nyack High School and Tappan Zee High School, and was to have faced Lakeland/Panas in the first round on Sunday but forfeited. The team finished the regular season 11-7-1 and was seeded 10th in the playoffs.
Administrators did not respond to media requests for comment.
This wasn't the first "Shake" that got athletes bounced recently. Eleven Susquehanna University football players reportedly got booted for their sexed-up version of the dance, according to Yahoo.
The lesson to be inferred from such reports? One ill-advised Internet dance can be the last dance.
