Spanx too uncomfortable for you? Just rip 'em off!

At least that's what Meredith Vieira decided to do Wednesday night while hosting the 10th Annual Woman’s Day Red Dress Awards at New York City's Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The New York Post reports that Vieira announced to the crowd that she was wearing the formfitting garment and couldn't wait to shed it. When the former "Today" host returned to the stage later in the evening, she revealed she had indeed taken off the Spanx and was feeling much more comfortable.

The audience -- which included S. Epatha Merkerson, Star Jones, Christine Quinn, LuAnn de Lesseps, "Millionaire Matchmaker" star Patti Stanger and honoree Sanjay Gupta -- erupted into laughter at Vieira's whimsy.

Held since 2003, the Red Dress Awards event is intended to raise funds for the American Heart Association, via silent auction. This year, designer David Meister donated five couture dresses for the auction. Naturally, attendees were decked out in red attire.
