Ronaldo Goal: Gus Johnson Calls Real Madrid, Manchester United Champions League Draw (VIDEO)

WATCH: Ronaldo Scores vs. Manchester United

Not only did Cristiano Ronaldo prove Derek McGovern wrong, but he ensured that Real Madrid emerged from the Bernabeu with a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the first leg of the heavyweight Champions League matchup.

Ten minutes after Danny Welbeck nodded the red-clad visitors into the lead on Wednesday night in Madrid, Ronaldo equalized against his former club. Rising above Patrice Evra to meet a cross from Angel Di Maria in the 30th minute, Ronaldo headed the tying goal past David De Gea.

Playing against his former team for the first time since his £80 million transfer in 2009, the Portuguese striker was subdued after his strike, even as his Madrid teammates celebrated around him.

Among those expressing more enthusiasm than Ronaldo was Gus Johnson, the excitable announcer making his FOX Soccer debut. Johnson is being groomed for the 2018 World Cup gig and got started with the glamor tie of the Champions League Round of 16.

What do you think?

Having conceded an away goal to United, Madrid may need Ronaldo to get back on the scoresheet when the second leg kicks off in Manchester on March 5. If he manages to get up for another header, perhaps Johnson will break out his "rise and fire" call.
