Hey look, there's almost a "Best Web Video about blah blah blah" almost every week, right? Even on TV. But only once a year does that title carry the weight of the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

Created three years ago, this category is a reflection not only of the growing numbers and popularity of web-based video, but also one in which the basic principles of respect and equity for writers has been affirmed, as well. It's refreshing to know that someone is holding it down for craftsmanship. To qualify, submissions for nomination must meet certain WGA standards.

They each run from two to eight minutes, and -- much like short films -- can serve as a calling card for a future full-length film director. These writers (many of whom also star in or produce the webisodes), could very well be the future Showrunner of the next Office or Parks and Recreation or Grey's Anatomy. So, they're literally worth a look.
