While one soft drink brand was living in the moment with a wild, out-of-control house party, another was serving up a slew of classic cinema archetypes in hopes of producing a crowd pleaser.

Coca-Cola ditched its iconic polar bears during Super Bowl XLVII for a cast of characters who often find their home on the silver screen. In a harsh desert landscape, three groups of characters -- showgirls, cowboys, and apocalyptic badlanders -- raced for the chance to cool off with a giant Coke bottle lying on the horizon. The commercial was aired without an ending, allowing viewers to vote on the conclusion during the big game.

Based on these Twitter reactions, the crowd wasn't necessarily in race to participate.

As the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens battled for the right to lift the Lombardi Trophy, Super Bowl advertisers competed for another prize: your attention.
