The Bolshoi Ballet is canceling its new performance of "The Rite of Spring" after the violent attack of artistic director Sergei Filin. The production, choreographed by Wayne McGregor, was meant to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vaslav Nijinsky's 1913 work, but has now been postponed until Filin returns to the company.

The announcement was made by Emerging Pictures, the production company behind the series Ballet in Cinema, which was set to screen "The Rite of Spring" in 300 US theaters this April.

Here's what the Bolshoi had to say about the performance's delay:

"The Directorship of the Bolshoi theatre of Russia, with the production crew headed by the choreographer Wayne McGregor, has come to a joint decision to postpone the production of 'The Rite of Spring' due to the fact that the artistic director of the ballet company of the Bolshoi theatre of Russia, Mr. Sergei Filin, is hospitalized. The date of the production will be determined after the artistic director of the ballet returns back to the theatre."

After surviving an acid attack earlier this month, Filin has undergone surgery in an attempt to prevent blindness. The masked assailant has yet to be identified.
