As National Rifle Association members and gun-control advocates face off before the Senate Wednesday morning, one Miami mother still has a bullet lodged in her neck from a horrendous armed robbery last Thursday.

Jackson Memorial Hospital recently released X-Rays of Evelin Matamoros, 36, who was shot in the face in front of her two young children after giving a robber her purse.

The violent attacked occurred in broad daylight at 5:30 p.m. as the family picked up food at Café Ruyi in Liberty City.

"She had a gunshot wound on the left side of her face, right underneath her eye," said Dr. Luis Gabriel Ruiz at a press conference on Tuesday. "It was remarkable, not only because she was able to speak and answer all of the questions but because she was very calm."

Doctors said the bullet grazed her cheekbone, traveled through her mouth, and shattered her lower jaw before landing in her neck.

It even flipped one of her teeth upside down as seen in the below slideshow.

“She was fortunate in this case that her airway was not compromised and there was no major bleeding due to her injuries,” Ruiz said.

And her prognosis is good -- not only is she able to talk, she will eventually regain chewing abilities after a series of four surgeries.

Doctors will also attempt to remove the bullet but are worried "the fragments are very close to vital structures, like the main blood vessel of the neck."

After the violent incident, while Matamoros remained in critical condition at Ryder Trauma Center, police arrested Kamiah Lanier, 20, and charged him with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use of firearm during a felony.
