Located in California's Santa Ynez Valley, tiny Solvang was first established in the early 20th century by a group of Danes looking to establish a Danish colony.
To this day, the town has a rich Danish heritage; a copy of Copenhagen's famous "Little Mermaid" statue sits near the center of town. In recent years, Solvang has also gained popularity as a wine destination, thanks in part to it serving as a backdrop to the 2004 film "Sideways."
