Sean Stewart thinks those with anything bad to say about his dating "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Adrienne Maloof, who is 20 years his senior, are just sexist.

TMZ caught up with Stewart, son of singer Rod Stewart, to ask about his romance with the Palms Hotel mogul. When the conversation turned to their glaring age difference -- he is 32 years old, she is 51 years old -- Stewart called critics of him and Maloof sexist.

"If men can date younger women, why can't an older woman date a younger man? It's sexist," he told TMZ. "It's about the person, who she is inside. Age is just a number. If there's a connection, and someone cares about a person, that's what matters really."

TMZ noted how Stewart's romance embodies his father's 1971 hit, "Maggie May," a song about a young man's complicated feelings for an older woman. The song tells the true story of Rod's former relations with an older woman. These days, however, the 68-year-old rocker prefers younger ladies. His wife, Penny Lancaster, is 41.

Age is not only meaningless to Sean, but also to Maloof.

Maloof has also opened up about the age difference, telling People magazine that Stewart is "a lot more mature than a lot of 60-year-olds at this time in his life." Continuing, "I'm a modern business woman. I don't think of age ... He understands my world, the entertainment industry and being a public figure."

The reality star also insisted Stewart's hard-partying past is behind him. "That was when he was a young kid," Maloof told People. "He's been clean and sober for years."

As for Maloof's ex-husband, Paul Nassif, the plastic surgeon is reportedly happy for his ex-wife.

"He only wants the best for Adrienne,” a source told RadarOnline. "He hopes she’s happy."
