Jeremy Goring, whose family has owned and operated The Goring Hotel since it was founded in 1910, announced this week that the hotel has received a "royal warrant" from Queen Elizabeth, Reuters reports.
"To be able to display Her Majesty's coat of arms is something that the staff will be enormously proud of," Goring said in a statement. "It is made all the more special for us because I believe this is the first Royal Warrant The Queen has ever granted to an hotel."
The 69-room hotel was the first hotel to offer en-suite bathrooms, the Calgary Herald reports, and has welcomed guests for the coronations of both George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
The former Kate Middleton stayed in the hotel's royal suite on April 28, 2011, the day before she married Prince William. It was reported at the time that the five-room suite the future Queen shared with her mother and sister included a four-poster bed, a grand piano, a throne and a waterproof, flat-screen TV.
Some two billion people watched Kate exit The Goring with her father as she headed to Westminster Abbey to marry Prince William, Reuters reports.
