Ryan Gosling, Backstreet Boy? Actor Says He Was There When It All Began

Ryan Gosling Could Have Been Backstreet Boy

Ryan Gosling could have been the sixth Backstreet Boy.

In a recent interview with Celebuzz, Gosling reveals he was there during the first days of the Backstreet Boys, but joked that band member A.J. McLean never returned his calls.

“When I was doing the Mickey Mouse Club, we were living in the same place as that guy A.J. from the Backstreet Boys,” Gosling told Celebuzz, referring to his stint on the Disney show from 1993 to 1995. “They were just forming that band, so he was saying how big they were going to be – and he had a poster of them in his house. We were like, it’s never going to happen. Didn’t they already do that with New Kids? You’re a little late. Cut to… I was wrong.”

Gosling joked about attempting to call McLean and being rebuffed. "They’re not returning my calls,” he said. “I try not to think about it.” Adding, “You can’t live in the past. You’ve got to live in the now. That ship has sailed.”

McLean is hoping to make amends.

"I want to say to Mr. Ryan Gosling, I am so sorry I didn't call you back, dude," the Backstreet Boys singer told TMZ. "If we ever want a sixth Backstreet Boy, I'm gonna call you."

McLean is apparently a fan. "He can sing his ass off! He's not only a great actor -- and a handsome man -- but he's a great singer."

Whether or not Gosling really had high hopes of embracing his inner boy-bander is unclear, but McLean would probably welcome the "Gangster Squad" actor to join their Backstreet Boys cruise with open arms.
