Golden Globes winner Lena Dunham made sure not to forget to thank one particular person at Sunday's ceremony -- Chad Lowe.

When the 26-year-old actress stepped on stage to accept the Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series for her HBO series, "Girls," she surprised viewers by thanking a very unexpected person. "I also promised myself that if I ever got this chance, I would thank Chad Lowe," said Dunham. "I'm sorry! I just promised. And I promised my mom."

"Because Hilary Swank forgot. And because I'm an a**hole," the "Girls" actress and creator said backstage after the show, according to E! News.

Swank infamously forgot to thank Lowe, who she was married to from 1997 to 2006, when accepting the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2000 for her role in "Boys Don't Cry." Swank did acknowledge Lowe five years later when she won her second Best Actress Oscar for "Million Dollar Baby."

Dunham actually promised Lowe that she would thank him if she ever won an award back in August when the two exchanged some compliments via Twitter. Dunham said Swank's forgetting to mention him was "so wrong" and Lowe said she could made it up to him. "I will probably mention you if I ever receive any award at all in my lifetime (and I too am a fan.)," responded Dunham.

When Dunham accepted her first Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical Series, she forgot about the current "Pretty Little Liars" actor. "Congrats to @lenadunham on your Golden Globe win. But, seriously? You forget to thank me?! After all we've been through? I'm shocked," he tweeted. She made it up to him later on.

"Girls" Season 2 airs on HBO on Sundays at 9 p.m. EST.
