30 Days Of LGBT Holiday Giving: Give A Gift To COLAGE

Note: This holiday season, in lieu of a traditional holiday gift guide, we'll be featuring a different LGBT organization each day for our "30 Days Of LGBT Giving." Check back tomorrow for a look at another incredible group that's working tirelessly on behalf of the LGBT community.

We're familiar with the coming out stories of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and queer people, but the children of LGBTQ parents have their own coming out moments as well. That's where groups like COLAGE come in.

With chapters all over the nation -- from Detroit to San Francisco to Utah -- COLAGE targets youth ages 8-18 by creating "a network of peers and supports them as they nurture and empower each other to be skilled, self-confident, and just leaders in their communities."

These chapters operate independently from the national COLAGE organization, which is based in Seattle where Washington started issuing marriage licenses in December after a historic general election. The national group provides support and materials to its local affiliates and each chapter provides opportunities for its members to meet other children of LGBTQ parents.

"There's something really important and special about celebrating all that is wonderful, and all that is challenging, and all that is hilarious, about the commonalities that come from having had a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer parent," said Meredith Fenton, former program director of COLAGE.

If you want to learn more about this wonderful organization and how you can help, visit their website, and check them out on Facebook and on Twitter @COLAGENATIONAL. Also, take a look at all their amazing videos on their YouTube page.
