Jerry Brown Cancer: California Governor Undergoing Treatment For Prostate Cancer

Jerry Brown Undergoing Treatment For Cancer

California Governor Jerry Brown announced Wednesday that he is undergoing treatment for localized prostate cancer.

"Fortunately, this is early stage localized prostate cancer, which is being treated with a short course of conventional radiotherapy," Brown's oncologist, UCSF's Dr. Eric Small, said in a statement. "The prognosis is excellent, and there are not expected to be any significant side effects."

Brown will continue on his full work schedule while he is treated, his office said in a statement. He expects to complete treatments on January 7, 2013.

Last April, the governor underwent surgery to remove a cancerous growth from the right side of his nose.
