This year was Colorado Gives Day's best year yet.
Donors gave 1,258 nonprofits a record $15 million on Tuesday -- a 20 percent increase from 2011 when donors raised $12.8 million.
Started in 2010, Colorado Gives Day is meant to increase philanthropy across the state by encouraging Coloradans to give to a local nonprofit that tackles issues they care about.
"Once again, Coloradans demonstrate amazing generosity and the passion to 'Give where you live,'" said Marla J. Williams, president and CEO of Community First Foundation in a statement. "I am awed by what happens when the community comes together--because it takes a community-wide effort to create this level of success."
Individual donations were received online at GivingFirst.org over a 24-hour period and ranged from $10 to $200,000.
According to a news release from the Community First Foundation, one donor gave $44,000 to 96 different charities.
About 68,000 donations were made, an increase of about 30 percent from last year.
A FirstBank incentive fund of $300,000 will be applied to individual contributions and sent to nonprofits at the end of the month.
