What better way to get into the gift-giving spirit than to give where you live?
This is just part of the big idea behind Colorado Gives Day, a 24-hour-long effort meant to increase philanthropy across Colorado by encouraging residents to give back to local nonprofits.
There are literally hundreds of nonprofits to give to this year, so it is advised that Coloradans give to a cause that serves issues they're passionate about.
Last year, 928 nonprofits collectively raised $12.8 million with 100 percent of every donation going to charity. There were over 52,000 donations -- a 116 percent increase from the year Colorado Gives Day began in 2010.
"In only two years, Colorado Gives Day has become a philanthropic institution in our state, bringing together local residents to support the nonprofit organizations that make Colorado such a vibrant place to live and work," said John Ikard, President and CEO of FirstBank Holding Company, a corporate partner in Colorado Gives Day.
Like last year, credit card and processing fees will be covered by the Community First Foundation, FirstBank and sponsors.
