For Cate Blanchett, something wicked could come her way sooner rather than later. According to TheWrap, Blanchett -- who just walked the red carpet at the world premiere of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" -- is in talks to play the wicked stepmother in Disney's upcoming reboot of "Cinderella."

If this project doesn't sound too familiar, that's because it's more than two years old. Deadline.com first reported Disney's interest in re-imagining the fairytale back in May of 2010; the film was an effort to capitalize on the fairytale craze started by "Alice In Wonderland," which earned over $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales after release that past spring. At the time, Aline Brosh McKenna ("27 Dresses," "We Bought a Zoo") was hired to write the script; Mark Romanek ("Never Let Me Go") was brought on to direct the project last year.

According to TheWrap, Romanek is still involved, but not McKenna: Chris Weitz ("About a Boy") is now writing the script.

Blanchett has kept busy in recent years. In addition to the three "Hobbit" films, where she'll reprise her "Lord of the Rings" role of Galadriel, she's also starring in films for George Clooney, Woody Allen and Terrence Malick.
