The country's largest amusement park may be closed for the season, but fans of high-performance roller coasters are already planning their trips for 2013, when the park's new GateKeeper ride will open.
The coaster will offer the strong-of-stomach a chance to enjoy 67 mph speeds over a nearly mile-long track while cantilevered out on "wings."
The thrill ride has yet to carry a passenger, but thousands of the park's Facebook fans have already "liked" advanced renderings of the coaster.
"The construction of GateKeeper meant several old attractions had to go," according to the industry-watching site Coaster Force. "Out with the old and in with the new, we say!"
The $30-million attraction will be the first new major coaster added to Cedar Point since 2007.
