Elahmadi Goba, Chicago Clerk, Fatally Shot Inside Convenience Store

Shop Clerk Fatally Shot Described As 'A Good Man'

Neighbors described Elahmadi Goba, a store clerk who was shot to death Tuesday night at a convenience store in Chicago's Auburn-Gresham neighborhood, as "a good man" who was always willing to help those who came to the store.

Goba, 40, was shot in the chest during an apparent robbery at the N & A Food Market in the 1100 block of West 84th Street, reports WGN. Police responded to the store after they were alerted to gunshots heard in the area around 7:40 p.m., writes the Tribune.

Paramedics had to force their way in to the store, where they discovered Goba on the floor behind the counter, and bullet holes fired through the plexiglass barrier at the counter, according to ABC Chicago.

The owner of N & A Food Market said the store's "extensive" surveillance camera system should have ample footage of the gunman and the shooting, reports WGN.

Just five months new to the neighborhood, both WGN and ABC reported neighbors' high praise for Goba, calling the Yemeni native "in tune" with the neighborhood and a man with "a heart of gold."

Police have no suspects in custody yet.
