Tigers Music: Songs From Detroit To Get Pumped For The 2012 World Series (SPOTIFY PLAYLIST)

The Detroit Tigers will face off tonight against the San Francisco Giants in Game 1 of the 2012 World Series. Will those Bay Area brawlers take down our Motor City maulers? It's not just a baseball game -- it's a culture war between yoga-bending, chowder-slurping West Coast softball fans and the down home, beer-drinking, kielbasa-noshing spirit of a true Tigs lover.

The outcome of Game 1 isn't assured. But we've already beat San Fran where it counts --in the battle for geographical music superiority. San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury may have once been synonymous with the hippie, free love movement of the 1960s. But in terms of songwriting ability and long-lasting historical relevance, we'd argue that Motown's racial and political significance outlasts that of San Fran. Plus, let's get real, nobody wants to dance to Starship.

And yeah, Journey formed in the Bay Area, but their best song is set in the Motor City (even if "South Detroit" is entirely made up), so we kind of get them too. Really, San Fran, when you have to trot out Huey Lewis & The News, it's not even a question where the heart of rock & roll still beats.
